[edit] Mini operation: Wikipedia

There is a recently created Wikipedia article[1]. WE MUST get this article up to Featured status. "Featured" means that the article is one of Wikipedia's most well written, and sourced articles. Featured articles are stable, and have a lack of vandalism. Most importantly however, Wikipedia proudly shows off these articles and featured articles get to be on the front page of Wikipedia for a day.

To eager anons: Be mature, and do not create an account that features YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS (Rules 1 & 2) or Anonymous in the title. Don't post any in-jokes (E.g. longcat is looooooonnnnnggggggg), and follow Wikipedia's guidelines. That means NPOV (neutral point of view) writing, cite sources (there's plenty by now, don't worry), and use excellent grammar and spelling.

Good luck, and Xenuspeed.

  • Note: Wikipedia's Featured Article Criteria include "1(e): 'Stable' means that the article ... content does not change significantly from day to day." As long as the raid is in progress and generating stories, its article can be neither a featured or a "good" article (Good Article Criteria #5 is essentially the same requirement.) However, having said that you should still try - because sometimes the featured article reviewers will let some criteria slide. 209.77.205.9 11:47, 30 January 2008 (PST)

The article is now a Good Article, well done to all anons that helped make this happen.

[edit] Mini Operation: Amazon

A bunch of us are making great progress reviewing all the scientology literature on Amazon. The more people we can get to do this the better, remember though, be professional. Link to books is here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/103-3348209-4872648?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=L.%20Ron%20Hubbard

Update: Amazon has removed ALL criticisms of Scientology literature! wtf? Get this up in the meemosphere!

[edit] Mini Operation: IMDB

Everyone who does have or can create an IMDB account - vote down all Tom Cruise, John Travolta, etc Films. Apart from Battlefield Earth - that is already as low as it gets.

We should also vote up anything critical to $cientology.

[edit] Mini Operation: eBay

eBay currently allows $cientology to remove any e-meters for sale on their site. This allows $cientology to completely control the market for e-meters, and hence to make a lot of money from them. Put pressure on eBay to stop this and hit $cientology where it hurts - their wallets.

read about it here: http://realitybasedcommunity.net/archive/2008/02/scientology_abu_1.php

complain to eBay here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/newtoebay/suggest.html

raise awareness about the issue on the eBay forums, chat rooms etc: http://hub.ebay.com/community

raise general public awareness by posting the above link, and this page everywhere you can.

[edit] Establishing Narratives and Analogies in the Media

As of today (3 Feb 08), these two articles are hitting reddit. Their accuracy is undetermined at this point, but it raises an excellent example of media attack: metaphor and symbolism.

  • Anonymous Victory - Katie Holmes leaving Tom Cruise?
Tabloid magazines are going crazy with the rumor that Katie Holmes is PISSED OFF about the recent Scientology video leaks, the Tom Cruise biography, and the constant negative press surrounding her insane husband and Hubbardian moonchild.
  • Scientology showdown – Katie storms out
The actress is said to be inconsolable after a string of leaked Scientology videos, featuring her husband saluting a portrait of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, declaring war on psychiatry and claiming that members of his religion are "the only ones who can really help" accident victims, have flooded the Internet and divided Hollywood.

Narratives make more impact on a watching audience and populace. As cracks appear in the personal life of King Thetan Himself, Tom Cruise, we'll find that it will have an effect over the whole of mainstream media towards not only the messages he's conveying to the masses, but also to other Scientologists as well.

Apparently there was a CoS in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, but closed due to its head "getting the fuck outta there," as someone posted in #Alberta on IRC. Any further information like this would be applicable for use in press releases and in offering a helping hand to current Scitols out there. They need to know their worldview is not perfect and that it's beginning to crack around them.

But remember, it's not fair to laugh at these persons. They are human, too. Once cracks begin to appear in their worldview through stories and narratives like this, we can't attack them for it. Anonymous represents all humans, and we should be willing to help. Get your lulz, but don't fuck them up any more than they already are.

If you are a media person or know someone that is influential in media, make sure to include the words "scientology" and "cult" in the same sentences several times, as well as "scientology" and "pyramid scheme". Since these are more accurate descriptions of the organization, it will help to move public opinion against them. Strong wording is encouraged because it is more mentally salient for the average reader.

[edit] Community websites

I've just recently noticed that the "church" puts ads in the UK community website [6] for books, cds, stress tests etc...

Should community websites you know also be the victim of such things, post its address here. And we should issue counter spam. Like "Cult Awareness : Dianetics" stuff.

[edit] Applied Scholastics - Scientology Front Group

Post flyers in neighbourhoods where there is an Applied Scholastics school/daycare/office warning parents of the connection between them and Co$. http://www.appliedscholastics.org/global_locator/search.php - for locations near you. Things worth highlighting:

  • Scientology breaking up families through forced 'disconnection'. (resource)
  • The multiple instances of child abuse in the church (resource)
  • The plight of children in the Sea Org (who rarely get to meet their parents more than an hour or two a day, who work full days all week, except one day of school, and so forth)
  • LRH quotes.
