Guidelines for Anonymous Communiques

Anonymous has the difficult task of presenting a unified message in a standard way, while simultaneously allowing the faceless masses to participate. We also need to be careful what we say, so that people do not get a false impression of us. Please follow these guidelines:

Guidelines for messages:

  • Messages should avoid sucking up to the authorities. Anonymous represents freedom, not conformity.
    • Statements claiming that Anonymous condones only legal actions should be avoided. If you agree with the law, then good for you. Not everyone does, including significant portions of Anonymous. Generally speaking, people follow the law because they are forced to, not because they agree with it. Please don't pretend the latter is true, when it isn't.
  • Challenge the assumptions of the media, not concede to them. All assumptions must be questioned.

The following points need to be made. Or, at least, your message must not contradict them:

  • Anonymous is made up of autonomous individuals; there is no single entity called "Anonymous".
    • Anonymous does not hold a single opinion. (In large-scale raids, it just so happens that most of these opinions coincide.)
  • There is no hierarchy. There are no order-givers. Everyone participates out of their own free will.
    • Most importantly, No individual (or other subset of Anonymous) can be held responsible for something they themselves didn't do/influence.
  • The word "Anonymous" can only validly used to refer things which are true in the general case, such as "Anonymous is attacking CoS". Statements like "Anonymous sent fake mail bombs" do not make sense because the people who have done this are a minority, not majority.

Sometimes the media will ignore the last point and attempt to extrapolate the actions of a few onto all Anonymous.

  • Such statements (eg. by the media) must be denouced thoroughly and utterly. This can be done by making the above points.
  • However, avoid denouncing the *object* of those statements (eg. the people/actions that the media criticize). This is bad, because then we are taking the media's side (and therefore implying support with their other views), and this also pretends that Anonymous has a single opinion. Just make no comment about it.

[edit] Rules for the Creation of ALL Anonymous Communiques

1) USE A TEXT-TO-SPEECH PROGRAM! Anonymous must speak with a single unified voice. Below are the steps needed to download and install the voice of Anonymous:

Anonymous does not restrict you to the above "voice". You are allowed to us another "voice" so long as it is computer-based. Any alternative voices you choose SHOULD sound at least as good as as the voice you downloaded in the above instructions.

2) DO NOT USE THE WORDS "Church" OR "Cult" IN YOUR COMMUNIQUE! Usage of the word "Church", even in the format "Church of Scientology" has a subtle influence upon the subconscious mind of the viewers which reinforces the idea that Co$ is a religion. Usage of the word "Cult" will play into Co$'s long-standing game of filing frivolous lawsuits to crush negative commentary about them. Additionally, the libel laws (which Co$ files complains under) is very strict in some countries (Britian) and puts the burden of proof on Anonymous to back up the "Cult" label.

3) DO NOT THREATEN PHYSICAL HARM TO ANYONE. DO NOT THREATEN TO TAKE ACTIONS WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE MASSES TO GO AGAINST ANONYMOUS. We cannot give Co$ any serious ammunition to strike back with. Government agencies of various countries may or may not drag their feet on hunting down website-disabling hackers. They WILL hunt down someone who threatens to park a car bomb in front of a Co$ building! So don't fucking play that game!!! ANONYMOUS WILL TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION IN DISTANCING ITSELF FROM SUCH A COMMUNIQUE AND WILL ASSIST LAW-ENFORCEMENT IN HUNTING YOU DOWN!

4) DO NOT USE YOUR COMMUNIQUE TO FURTHER YOUR PERSONAL BELIEFS! Anonymous is of the masses. Anonymous is without identity. Anonymous exists only for cause, and currently that cause is the destruction of Co$. WE ARE NOT YOUR PERSONAL ARMY.

5) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DEFINE ANONYMOUS! For we are Anonymous.

6) KEEP IT SIMPLE! Anonymous communicates to a global audience. If the points to your message are simple to understand, then Co$ will have a harder time twisting the idea into something else.

7) BE CAREFUL WITH COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS! Anonymous must be aware that a communique will not stay up for very long because of the (very similar) litigious nature of many copyright holders. Our communiques must stay online in order to have an impact in the minds of the people! Our battle is with the Co$ and their gross misuse of copyright law to suppress the truth.
